“Black Joy Parade”

The Black Joy Parade is an annual event that aims to provide the Black community and its supporters with a live experience to celebrate their influence on the past, present, and future.

Elisha Greenwell, hailing from Northern California, had an amazing idea to bring happiness and positivity to Oakland, California's Black community. She wanted to create something big that wasn't centered around protests about injustice, but instead focused on spreading pure joy.

She earned her B.A. from UC Santa Barbara and her M.F.A. from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. Through her 18-year career in marketing, she made her mark by crafting community-centered brand strategies for major companies including Meta (formerly Facebook).

Using her connections from both the corporate world and grassroots organizations, Elisha wasted no time in putting her plan into action. In 2018, she launched the very first parade, and it was an instant hit, capturing the hearts of many.

This event brings together a diverse group of people, sharing their special ways of adding joy to the Black community. In a world that often focuses on challenges, the Black Joy Parade stands as a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, creativity, and positivity that define our community.

The Black Joy Parade is free for the public.
